Crash in Newstead results in heroin possession arrests

Deputies responding to a crash on Wednesday in the Town of Newstead arrested both the driver and passenger after finding heroin and marijuana in the car, the Erie County Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies arrived at the Crittenden Road crash at 11:20 p.m. to find the vehicle off the road, where it had damaged a utility pole. The driver, 22-year-old Alisha Mehl of Lancaster, had three active suspensions on her license and an outstanding warrant for assault from Depew, the Sheriff's Office said. Deputies also found Mehl and her passenger, Seth Esskuchen, 26, of Depew, in possession of a quantity of heroin and marijuana, the Sheriff's Office said.

Both were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana, according to a police report, and Mehl was also charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle.

Mehl was taken to Erie County Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
