Visitors attending the Fourth of July festivities at Canalside must pass through a security inspection upon entry beginning at 4 p.m., Buffalo police announced Monday.
The entrance will be located on Marine Drive and re-entry is allowed. No bags, backpacks, string bags, outside food or beverages, weapons, selfie sticks or other dangerous items will be allowed inside the event, police said. Only small purses and diaper bags will be allowed inside.
Recommended parking for Canalside is on Perry Street by the KeyBank Center and additional lots and ramps on the east side of Main Street, police said.
As the event concludes, the NFTA-Metro will have three buses parked along Washington Street as well as three trains ready at the Erie Canal Harbor Station to expedite moving guests out of the area.
The Queen City Bike Ferry between the Outer Harbor and Canalside will run on extended hours, until 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The new Canalside police substation, which opened over the weekend, will operate from 6:30 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.
