The Healthy 10: Slow Roll times 2, outdoor fun among week's options

Slow Roll will be twice as nice this week, and joins Taste of Buffalo and an outdoor movie in Niagara Falls among the WNY Refresh Top 10 Picks of the Week when it comes to health, fitness, nutrition and family events in the region. To see this week’s complete calendar, click here.

MONDAY

Fourth of July Carnival: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.; also 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday, Wilkeson Pointe, Outer Harbor State Park, 225 Fuhrmann Blvd.; also look for events at Canalside. For more info, visit canalsidebuffalo.com.

Slow Roll Buffalo: Riders gather at 5:30 p.m. and ride starts at 6:30 p.m. sharp The Oakk Room, 1435 Main St.; another ride takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, Murphy Brown’s Craft Beer Empourium, 9500 Main St., Clarence. Roughly 10-mile guided ride for all ages and abilities. First-time riders should register at slowrollbuffalo.org. Bikers up to age 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Free.

TUESDAY

Power Pilates: 6 p.m.; same time on Thursday, Wilkeson Pointe, Buffalo Outer Harbor, 225 Fuhrmann Blvd. Free.

WheelWorks outing: 6 p.m., Campus WheelWorks, 744 Elmwood Ave. Five categories range from fast-paced, 30-mile course to a shorter “ice cream ride.” Bike helmet mandatory. For information on this and other excursions, visit campuswheelworks.com.

WEDNESDAY

Breast Cancer Network of WNY educational series: 6:30 p.m., Catholic Health Administration Building, 144 Genesee St. Will feature Julia Kress, of the Himalayan Institute, presenting “The Benefits of Yoga for Breast Cancer Survivors.” Free, with free parking in the Catholic Health Genesee Street parking ramp. Flicks on Old Falls: Fun for kids starts at 7:30 p.m., movies at 9 p.m., Middle Block, Old Falls Street, Niagara Falls. Free. This week's feature is “Space Jam.” Free.

FRIDAY

Friday Night Frights: 7 p.m., Old Fort Erie, 350 Lakeshore Road, Fort Erie, Ont. Guided tour by lantern light through the winding pathways of the old fort, where costumed interpreters will help bring to life the stories and secrets of the many British, American and First Nations soldiers who perished there; 30-minute tour costs $5.

SATURDAY

FreeStyle Barre: 10 a.m., Buffalo RiverWorks, 359 Ganson St. Free.

BollyX: 11 a.m., Canalside. Bollywood-inspired dance-fitness program that combines dynamic choreography with the hottest music from around the world. Free.
