Lockport sex offender headed to prison in child porn case

A Town of Lockport man who is a registered sex offender pleaded guilty Thursday to having child pornography on his computer in 2015.

Keith R. Swartzlander, 30, of Shunpike Road, faces mandatory state prison time of up to four years because of his status as a repeat felon. State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. set sentencing for Sept. 28.

Swartzlander previously served  1 1/2 years in the Niagara County Jail for sexually abusing a 4-year-old girl in 2004. That offense that made him a Level 1 sex offender. He also served eight years in state prison for a 2008 burglary conviction.

Defense attorney James J. Faso Jr. said he unsuccessfully tried to persuade District Attorney Caroline A. Wojtaszek to let Swartzlander plead guilty to a misdemeanor so he wouldn't have to go back to state prison.
