Free public transit trial drew 98 employees from Medical Campus

A program to get more people to take public transit to the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus drew 98 campus workers from member institutions that took advantage of a one-week free trial in May, the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus Inc. said.

The campus organization and public transportation officials partnered to offer the free trial to entice people to consider alternative forms of transportation to the growing Medical Campus.

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority has also rolled out a six-month trial this month of a new corporate matching discount, potentially cutting the cost of a $75 monthly pass to $38.50 for some commuters.

The number of people working on the campus is expected to grow from about 12,000 today to 15,000 by next year when the John R. Oishei Children's Hospital and University at Buffalo's new medical school open.
