Explore & More child programming twice as nice this summer

The Explore & More Children’s Museum isn’t scheduled to open at Canalside until next summer but the museum aims to make its presence felt at both its current site in the Southtowns and on the Buffalo waterfront.

Free Family Fun Fridays will take place at Canalside and Wander the World Wednesday (WOWs) at the museum, 300 Gleed Ave., East Aurora.

Both will stretch through August.

Each week downtown Explore & More will celebrate a different educational play zone area of the new Museum at Canalside with crafts, games and activities. Family Fun Fridays each will stretch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; they won’t take place July 28 or Aug. 4 to accommodate a pair of Canalside festivals, but those dates will be replaced with two Sundays, July 9 and Aug. 27.

Each event will have a theme:

June 23: Farm-to-Fork

June 30: Driving Buffalo’s Dreams

July 7: Playing Together

July 9: Recycled Creations (Sunday)

July 14: Rooftop Garden

July 21: Building Buffalo

Aug. 11: Tinkering

Aug. 18: Moving Water

Aug. 25: Fine Arts Day

Aug. 27: Imagination Playground (Sunday)

Sept. 1: Being Good Neighbors

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. each Wednesday through August, families can “visit” a different country at the Explore & More Museum to explore culture, crafts, traditions, performances, food, clothing and language. The programs are free with admission because of a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts and support from the State Legislature. The countries include:

July 5: India

July 12: China

July 19: Germany

July 26: Somalia

Aug. 2: Italy

Aug. 9: Poland

Aug. 16: Burma

Aug. 23: Yemen

Aug. 30: Colombia

Explore & More Children’s Museum, which marks its 23rd year this summer, provides an environment for creative play and learning through hands-on exhibits, activities and programs that inspire creativity, curiosity and imagination. Its new museum is scheduled to open in the South Aud Block at Canalside in the second half of 2018.  For more information, visit exploreandmore.org or call 655-5131, Ext. 11.
