Transit Road crash leads to felony charges against Cheektowaga man

A man who drove a rented box truck across four lawns and hit several trees on Transit Road in Clarence on Tuesday night was charged with driving while impaired by drugs, according to the Erie County Sheriff's Office.

In addition to that felony charge, Sean Murphy, 25, of Cheektowaga, also faces a misdemeanor drug possession charge after deputies found a bag of 23 Xanax pills inside the truck, the Sheriff's Office said.

The crash happened at about 6:20 p.m. near the intersection with Millersport Highway. Murphy failed several field sobriety tests and a drug-recognition expert determined Murphy was impaired, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Authorities also charged Murphy with felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and using a leased vehicle without an interlock device, as well with several vehicle and traffic violations.

Murphy was being held in the Erie County Holding Center pending arraignment in Clarence Town Court.
