HEALTHY CHOICES – Stock up on locally grown fruit and vegetables at discount prices beginning Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. when the Veggie Van Mobile Farmers Market sets up outside the Heart Center at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, 571 Tenth St., Niagara Falls.
Sponsored by the Heart Center and Cornell Cooperative Extension, the Veggie Van will visit every Thursday through Sept. 1, except Aug. 3.
A chef from Wegmans will show how to prepare fresh produce. Medical staffers will test for heart disease and take blood pressure readings. Doctors will answer health questions and experts from the hospital’s Pharmacy Department will give advice to those with questions about bottled prescriptions and dietary supplements.

AUTHOR, AUTHOR – Retired Empire State College SUNY Distinguished Service Professor Keith Elkins, founder of the Brainstormers, a theater troupe which presents plays that address concerns of senior citizens, will read from his book, “The Old Guy Goes,” and sign copies at noon Saturday in Dog Ears Cafe and Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road. FILL THE GRILL – The Erie District Order of the Eastern Star will sponsor a meat raffle Saturday afternoon in the 32nd Degree Masonic Community Center, 2379 Union Road, Cheektowaga. CRAFT SUMMIT – Three newly-accepted Roycroft Artisans – ceramicist Leslie Green Guilbault, beadwork creator Patricia McDermott and fiber artist Kathy Caims-Hendershott – will debut at the 41st annual Roycroft Summer Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of Parkdale Elementary School, 141 Girard Ave., East Aurora.
Roycroft Artisans and Master Artisans will give lectures and demonstrations both days. Providing music will be Creek Bend on Saturday and the Old Hippies on Sunday.
Drawing for the annual raffle of the Roycroft Goodie Box, a custom crafted jewelry box with works from numerous Roycroft Artisans, valued at $5,200, will be at 4 p.m. Sunday. For more info, visit
