New barrel-aged IPA
Buffalo Brewing Company (314 Myrtle Ave.) will release its 1901 IPA (India Pale Ale) aged in Buffalo Distilling bourbon barrels on June 29. Customers can purchase a three-pack of crowlers from the brewery and save $5. Call 868-2218.
Downtown bar crawl
The second annual Big Fat Sunday Funday Bar Crawl is from noon to 6 p.m. June 25. The event will have stops at eight to ten bars across the Waterfront, Canalside and Cobblestone areas. At this choose-your-own-adventure crawl, check-in is at the Canalside Beer Garden where you obtain a wristband and map before heading out to participating bars, enjoying drink specials all along the way. Kölsch Day celebration
42 North Brewing Company (25 Pine St., East Aurora) will host its second annual Kölsch Day from 1 to 6 p.m. June 25. The brewery will serve its Nelson Sauvin-hopped Kölsch in traditional stange glassware. In true German biergarten fashion, the Tapkeeper will fill attendees’ glasses and keep a tab until finished. Admission is free. The event will feature music by The Auslanders and German-themed menu items. Call 805-7500.
A Brewer's Fest
The fourth annual Buffalo Brewers Festival will take place from 3 to 7 p.m. June 24 at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor (225 Fuhrmann Blvd.). Put on by the Buffalo Niagara Brewers Association, the festival is the only one in the area to be hosted by and for local craft brewers. More than 40 breweries from the region, including Southern Ontario, will participate.
Food will be available from Allen Burger Venture, Cheesy Chick food truck and Frank’s Gourmet Hot Dogs truck. The festival will also feature two “meet the brewers” sessions in which local breweries will pair beers with artisan cheeses from Reverie Creamery and vegan chocolates from Thinking Elvish Fantasy Chocolates. General admission tickets are $35 and available at the event or in advance online at buffalobrewersfestival.com, Aurora Brew Works, Premier Gourmet, the Buffalo Bisons box office and all Consumers Beverage locations.
12 Gates Brewing Company (80 Earhart Drive) will release its new Hermetic IPA on June 21. This softly bittered IPA is 5.9 percent ABV (alcohol by volume) and features numerous new-world hops for loads of citrusy and tropical flavors, including pineapple and grapefruit. Call 906-6600.
A dessert-style porter
Woodcock Brothers Brewery (638 Lake St., Wilson) has released the first batch of its Salted Caramel Coffee Porter on draft in the brewery. The dessert-style porter is brewed with cocoa nibs and salted caramel cold-press coffee from Orange Cat Coffee. Inspired by Christopher Budde of Brewed and Bottled Craft Beer Shop (Lewiston), the infused beer will also be available in area bars and stores later this month.
