Niagara River Greenway funding is being sought for the Discover Niagara Shuttle, a Town of Niagara park and a bust of the man after whom Lewiston is named. Public comment will be accepted through July 5 at Jeanne.Leccese@parks.ny.gov.
Veterans Memorial Park off Grauer Road in the Town of Niagara would receive $399,870 toward a $647,000 "town square" project that includes a concrete plaza and conversion of a park pavilion into a restroom facility. The town intends to pay the entire cost of a 30-foot clock tower.
The Town of Lewiston seeks $33,850 to install a bronze bust of Morgan Lewis, a politician and Revolutionary War soldier who became the town's namesake, in the International Peace Garden on Center Street.
Lewiston also wants the go-ahead to use $50,000 of its Greenway allocation to subsidize this year's operations of the Discover Niagara Shuttle, a tourist service that runs between Niagara Falls and Youngstown.
