Mario Echevarria, 35, of Verona Street was arrested early Sunday morning for possession of cocaine. Police stopped the white Dodge Durango he was driving at 12:43 a.m. and found a plastic bag of powder cocaine and a plastic straw at Echevarria's feet, police said.
Echevarria dropped a second plastic bag of cocaine from his left pocket at City Court booking, police said. He was charged with two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor.
The officers were responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle at Remington Place and North Legion Drive, and saw that the Durango had no insurance.
Echevarria remained in custody at the Erie County Holding Center Sunday night.
