Alex Bish of St. Mary’s of Lancaster has been selected as the Pitcher of the Year in the Msgr. Martin Athletic Association’s baseball league for the 2017 season. Alex Zulia of St. Joe’s was picked as the Offensive Player of the Year, while Joe Barbario of St. Mary’s was chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year.

Bish was the ace of the Lancers’ staff, and he was as good at the plate as he was on the mound. Bish hit .476 and had 12 RBIs. Zulia was 16 for 28 for a .571 batting average to lead the MMAA, while Barbario hit .368 while playing catcher and second base for the Marauders.

The three were part of the All-Catholic baseball team for 2017. Here are the other selections:

Pitchers - Jack Collins, Canisius; Kiernan Higgins, Bishop Timon/St. Jude.

Catchers - Ty Syta, St. Francis; Dennis Gagliardo, St. Joe’s.

Infielders - Cole O’Connor, St. Francis; Luke Pierce, St. Joe’s; Mike Mazzara, Canisius; Zack Penksa, St. Mary’s; Andrew Michalski, St. Francis.

Outfielders - Treavor Brill, Bishop Timon/St. Jude; Will Carlone, St. Joe’s; Nick Falbo, St. Joe’s.

Designated hitter - Will Lawrence, Canisius.
