The University at Buffalo men's basketball team will play Cincinnati in the first round of the 2017 Cayman Islands Classic, it was announced Thursday.

The early season tournament includes eight teams playing three games Nov. 20-22.

UB, 17-15 last season, is expected to be one of the better teams in the Mid-American Conference again in 2017-18. Cincinnati was ranked No. 18 last season, posting a 30-6 record and making its seventh straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. The Bearcats' top three scorers return for next season.

The winner of the UB-Cincinnati game meets the winner of a game between Richmond and Alabama-Birmingham. The losers of those games meet on Nov. 21. The other two first-round games of the event are Iowa vs. Louisiana-Lafayette and San Diego State vs. Wyoming.
