Niagara Falls man draws 7 1/2 years for arson at woman's home

A Niagara Falls man was sentenced Wednesday to 7 1/2 years in state prison for setting a fire at the home of a woman who had an order of protection against him.

Otis B. Tilford, 63, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty Jan. 23 to a reduced charge of attempted second-degree arson. The maximum penalty for that is 15 years in prison, but State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch chose half of that and added five years of post-release supervision.

The fire occurred July 10 in Niagara Falls. Tilford had been held in the Niagara County Jail without bail since he entered his guilty plea.
