Winston Lin's quest of winning a professional tennis title before the home folks came to an end Thursday at the Sargent & Collins, LLP Men's $15,000 Futures Tournament at Miller Tennis Center in Williamsville.
Lin (Williamsville East) dropped a tough three-set match that lasted 2 hours, 31 minutes to former Elon University standout Cameron Silverman, falling 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. Lin's chances of winning the doubles title also came to an end as he and partner Raleigh Smith dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Canadians Christian Lakoseljac and David Volfson.
The latter team will face Alexandru Gozun and Tomas Stillman for the doubles title at 4 p.m. Friday.
Singles quarterfinals at noon start the long day of play at Miller Tennis Center. Admission is free and open to the public.
The tournament's top seed won't be among the participants, though. Alex Rybakov defeated No. 1 seed Gonzalo Lama 6-3, 7-6 (6). Seeds Nos. 2-4 remain in contention for the singles title.
