Youth in Cheektowaga woman's car calls 911, driver charged with DWI

A Cheektowaga woman was charged with drunk driving while also transporting three children under the age of 16 in her vehicle.

State police said one of the three children in Joanne L. Batch's car called 911 because of her erratic driving Saturday night.

When troopers caught up to her about 10:45 p.m. on West Yorkshire Road in the Town of Yorkshire in Cattaraugus County, Batch's vehicle was weaving from one lane to another in an unsafe manner, state police said. While interviewing her, troopers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage and administered a field sobriety test, which Batch failed, state police said.

Batch, 45, was charged under the state's Leandra's Law with driving while intoxicated and three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, state police said.

Batch was arraigned in the Town of Freedom Court and scheduled to return later this month.
