June 15 – Opening of frog season in NY through Sept. 30. Visit the DEC website at www.dec.ny.gov for details.

June 15 – Erie County Chapter of SCOPE will hold its monthly meeting at the Harvey D. Morin Post, 965 Center Road, West Seneca starting at 7 p.m.

June 16 – Kids fly fishing clinic at Adventure Bound on the Fly, 16 Washington St., Ellicottville from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 217-4047 for more information.

June 17 – Opening of regular bass season in New York, as well as Great Lakes muskellunge season. Consult www.dec.ny.gov for regulations.

June 17 – Great Lakes Experience/Festival in Dunkirk from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the area of the Clarion Hotel. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service displays with a focus on the environment, ecology, science and fish.

June 17 – NYS Summer Classic Fishing Tournament through Aug. 31. A total of 10 fish species categories and 55 weigh-in locations around the state. Registration is $25 for adults, $5 for kids. Go to www.nyssummerclassic.com for more information.

June 17 – Seabirds International/Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) women-only kayaking tour from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on the Buffalo River. Cost is $40. Call 392-2708 to register. Rentals available. Meet at the DEC launch on Ohio Street, Buffalo.

June 17 – New June meeting date and time of Lake Erie Chapter of Fly Fishers International will be at 7:30 a.m.  It will be an on-the-stream fishing meeting, polishing skills at casting and catching fish!  Rain or shine. June 17 - 31st Annual Kids Derby sponsored by the Wilson Conservation Club, 2934 Wilson-Cambria Road (Route 425), Wilson from 8 a.m. to 12 noon for junior fishermen age 3 to 14. Any Niagara County waters are eligible. This is a contest based on length and you must have your fish measured at the club by noon. Call 930-7500 for more information.

June 17 - 22nd Annual Kids Fishing Derby at Niawanda Park, Tonawanda from 9 a.m. to 12 noon with registration starting at 8 a.m. Just show up at the band shell to sign up. Fishing and other activities.

June 17 – Cancelled: Kelly’s Korners in Niagara Falls has cancelled its opening day bass contest to encourage more catch and release by anglers.

June 17 – 12th Annual Canadaway Creek Conservation Project from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the pavilion behind the Fredonia Fire Hall. Included in the day will be an educational presentation, a stream clean-up, invasive species removal and tree planting. Free lunch.

June 18 – Kayaking with Dad at Buckhorn Island State Park, Grand Island from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Bring your kayak and approved PFD. Call 282-5154 for more info or to register.

June 19 – Free weekly fly tying and fly fishing classes extended on Mondays from 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m. at the Costello Community Room (P84) in the new addition to Rockefeller Arts Center, SUNY Fredonia for as long as there is interest. June 22 – Location Change: Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs will have its monthly meeting at the Hamburg Rod and Gun Club, 3434 Hickox Road, Hamburg. This will be with the Lake Erie Chapter of the Federation of Fly fishers. Meeting starts at 7 p.m. (6:30 p.m. for the Board).

June 24 – Free Teach-Me-To-Fish Clinic at Chestnut Ridge County Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Preregistration is preferred by contacting DEC’s Mike Todd at 851-7010. Adult supervision required for all children.

June 24-25 – NYS Free Fishing Weekend. No license needed anywhere in the state but you do have to abide by state fishing regulations. Check out www.dec.ny.gov.

June 24-25 – Hooked on Fishing Tournament presented by the Boys and Girls Club of the Northtowns. Over $3,000 in prizes. Everything is run out of Gateway Harbor, North Tonawanda. July 1 – Alabama Hunt Club Gunslingers Shoot starting at 9 a.m. The club is located on Lewiston Road, Alabama. Black powder shooting.

July 6 - Boston Valley Conservation Society, 9624 Zimmerman Road, Boston, will host a six-week Doubles Trap League starting on July 6. Shooting sign up times are Thursdays 6-8 p.m. Targets may be A.T.A. Registered. League & practice shooters are all welcomed.For information: 335- 4111
