Orchard Park Central students can thank Bono for an extra day of summer vacation.
The Orchard Park Central School District decided to postpone the first day of school from Tuesday, Sept. 5 to Sept. 6 because of extra traffic expected in the town for the U2 concert at New Era Field, which is scheduled at 7:30 p.m.
"On the first day of school, transportation is usually delayed because students are still learning where to find their buses and drivers are often becoming familiar with new routes," said a statement to parents on the district website. "With the significant increase in local traffic expected for the concert, we know that it would impact our school district transportation."
Out of an "abundance of caution," Superintendent Matthew McGarrity recommended the first day of school for students be moved to the following day.
