Buffalo man pleads guilty to possessing fentanyl

A Buffalo man who was arrested two months ago in a raid on a Cheektowaga apartment faces up to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to possessing fentanyl.

Eddie Fields, 44, pleaded guilty before Erie County Court Justice Thomas P. Franczyk to criminal possession of a controlled substance in the second degree, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Narcotics officers from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office executing a search warrant in April at a Williamstown Court apartment in Cheektowaga arrested Fields after he was found to be in possession of a large amount of fentanyl.

Fentanyl, a synthetic opioid or painkiller, is believed responsible to a spike in overdoses in Erie County and across the nation.
