Village officials study truck traffic on residential streets in Lancaster

In the Village of Lancaster, weight limits for trucks are set at 5 tons except for local delivery, says Arthur A. Herdzik, village counsel.

Some residents think the limit is being ignored.

In response, village officials are reviewing the effects of truck traffic on residential streets.

"Do we really want to address the trucks coming in and out of Court Street?" asked Herdzik. "NYSEG trucks are more than six tons. We violate our own rules with fire trucks. That's 15 tons right there."

Officials agreed to form a committee to examine the issue including the bridge weight capacity on two village thoroughfares, Erie and Court streets.

The first meeting will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 21 during the Village Board's work session.
