Vacant property in Swormville eyed for apartments, retail complex

The Clarence Town Board will hold a public hearing at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at Town Hall on a proposal to build apartments, patio homes and retail space on vacant property at 6855 Transit Road in Swormville.

The town Planning Board already has reviewed and recommended the project, according to James Callahan, director of community development. The Town Board is being asked to approve a special exception use permit to allow multifamily housing at the site.

Developer Davis Tiburzi's mixed-use project would be located just south of St. Mary's School on 2 acres of vacant property. Callahan said Tiburzi has proposed two boutique-style commercial properties with three two-bedroom apartments above and eight patio homes at the rear of the property.

He said concerns raised by St. Mary's about drainage from the project will be addressed in the final engineering plan, which must receive Planning Board approval.
