Outer Harbor, Buffalo River tours tout history of grain elevators

Silos turned into a brewery at Buffalo RiverWorks. Efforts to promote Silo City as a national park. And, a grain elevator on the Outer Harbor illuminated each night of the year.

The concrete behemoths are in the news, and efforts are being made to tell their story.

The Industrial Heritage Committee has announced dates of its annual summer river tours, which pass by the grain elevators located along the Buffalo River and City Ship Canal.

Tours will be held July 4, July 22, Aug. 5, Aug. 20 and Sept. 4. They leave Miss Buffalo Dock in the Erie Basin Marina at 12:30 p.m., and return at 2:30 p.m. Cost is $19, $13 for children ages 4-11. For reservations, call 856-6696 or book online.

The Industrial Heritage Trail also offers illustrated display panels on the Outer Harbor.
