A body was recovered from the lower Niagara River early Sunday evening by the Youngstown-based unit of the Coast Guard. A search had been launched after a call was received about someone spotting what might be a body floating in the waterway near Lewiston.
The Coast Guard said it received a call from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office at about 7 p.m. about the report of a body in the river. The Coast Guard recovered the body and turned the body over to the Sheriff's Office.
Lewiston police is handling the investigation. Lewiston police officials could not be reached early Monday morning.
