Peter D. Putnam, 56, longtime Eden Emergency Squad member

September 30, 1960 - June 5, 2017

Peter D. Putnam, of Eden, died Monday in Buffalo General Medical Center. He was 56.

Born in Buffalo, He graduated from Eden Central High School.

Mr. Putnam was a 35 year member of the Eden Emergency Squad. He served in many positions with the squad including Deputy Director of Operations, Vice President, Supply Lieutenant and Communications Lieutenant. He sat on the Board of Directors and various committees as well as serving as a Trustee. He was ALS Captain in 1989 and a dispatcher, logging 15,935 hours of on call duty.

Mr. Putnam last held the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician position for the Eden Emergency Squad, but held a Critical Care Technician position for 5 years.

He was a National Safety Council and American Red Cross CPR and First Aid Instructor for 20 years. In addition he was a New York State EMT Instructor.

In recent years he was certified for high angle rope rescue.

Mr. Putnam was a past dispatcher for the Eden Police Department and was a past member of the Eden Police Club as a Reserve Police Officer.

He was a life exempt member North Evans Fire Department for 15 years, as well as a member of the Hogs and Heroes Foundation where he was the Road Captain.

Mr. Putnam is survived by his wife of 28 years the former Nannett McPherson; a son Timothy Putnam and four siblings.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. June 17 in Immaculate Conception Church, 8791 S. Main St. Eden.
