Vitalia Medrano De la O, who was employed in a variety of jobs in her native Costa Rica, died unexpectedly Wednesday in her North Tonawanda home. She was 86.
Born in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, to French and Greek immigrant parents, she was married to Juan Solorzano in 1951 and was the mother of 11 children.
She worked as a nurse, midwife and cook and was a seamstress and designer for O’Leony, an American company manufacturing in Costa Rica.
Her husband died in 2002 and she came to North Tonawanda in 2006 to be near one of her daughters.
She enjoyed cooking and gardening and was active in the North Tonawanda Senior Center.
Survivors include eight daughters, Sonia Solorzano Medrano, Felicia Solorzano Medrano, Susana Solorzano Medrano, Nohemi Solorzano Medrano, Esther Solorzano Medrano, Patricia O’Donnell, Ninoshka Solorzano Medrano and Adela Solorzano Medrano; three sons, Juan Solorzano Medrano, Alfonso Solorzano Medrano and Gonzalo Solorzano Medrano; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church, 800 Niagara Falls Blvd., North Tonawanda.
