Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey's Circus may have called it quits last month, but there will be a chance to catch some of the circus magic this summer at Canalside.
Aerialists, acrobats and fire performers are scheduled for the Boardwalk Bazaar series starting today, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Boardwalk Bazaar series will be held four more times: June 23, July 7, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25.
If you like what you see, some of the performers are willing to teach you how to do it at Bird's Nest Circus Arts on the city's East Side.
"We want to give people the opportunity to not just see circus arts but come and learn how to do them themselves," said Emilee Philips, a founding member. "It is both an art form and an exercise. We hope to inspire others to join us and start to believe they can do it too."
Bird's Nest Circus Arts also teaches circus arts in its studio at 64 Fillmore Ave. For more information, go to birdsnestbuffalo.com.
Other performances and activities at Boardwalk Bazaar include balloon sculpting, magic, psychic readings, reptile demonstrations, virtual reality stimulators, juggling, music and dance.
Local restaurants and artisan vendors will be on hand, too, including Nickel City Novelties, Smoothies Plus, Go Veggie, House of Munch, Matties, Mazurek's, Shishkabob, TCJ Events, Wegmans Sushi and Tuk Tea.
The Boardwalk Bazaar series is sponsored by Five Star Bank and supported by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York.
