Albion resident charged following fight that leaves man critically injured

A Village of Albion man was airlifted Friday to Buffalo General Hospital after police said he sustained severe head injuries, allegedly in a physical altercation with another man, according to authorities.

Albion Police were dispatched at about 1:47 a.m. to an apartment building on North Main Street in the village, where they found the man, Albion Police said.

The man, 53, was taken by ambulance to Medina Hospital and then transferred to Buffalo General by Mercy Flight, according to authorities.

Wesley Askew Jr., 49, was charged with second- and first-degree assault and attempted second-degree murder, after an investigation into the incident by police, according to Albion Police Friday.

Askew is an acquaintance of the injured man and lives at the same address on North Main Street, authorities said.

The injured man was listed in critical condition at Buffalo General, Albion Police said. His name was not released.

Askew was held in Orleans County Jail on $250,000 bail. He is scheduled to return Wednesday to Albion Town Court.
