Garden Notes for June 11-15

East Aurora Garden Club will meet at noon June 12 in St. Matthias Episcopal Church, Main and Maple streets, East Aurora. Park in rear. Dorothy Julius, co-owner of Along Garden’s Path, will present “Think Spring, Think Green,” which will include a demonstration on how to incorporate natural materials in home decor and timely tips on recycling and gardening. Cheektowaga Garden Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. June 12 at the home of Carol Szczepanski. Members will create garden art for their personal gardens and the plant sale in July. A supply list will be sent by mail. Dinner will be served. RSVP at 870-5017.

Kenmore Garden Club will meet at 10 a.m. June 13 in Kenmore United Methodist Church, Landers Road. Following the business meeting, Nancy Kalieta, second assistant director of FGCNYS, District 8, will present a program on the Victorian Language of Flowers plus a summary of Queen Victoria’s life. Also in June will be the planting of flowers at Kenmore and Englewood avenues, an after-school program at the Belmont YMCA, National Garden Week displays in the Kenmore libraries and a garden therapy project at McAuley Residence. Guests are welcome to attend the meeting.

Ken Parker will speak to the Evans Garden Club on native plants for this region at the club’s monthly meeting at 7 p.m. June 13 in the Angola Public Library. New members welcome.

Ken-Sheriton Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. June 13 in St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 576 Delaware Road, Kenmore. Master gardener and author Lyn Chimera will present “Container Gardening.”

Garden Friends of Clarence will meet at 6:30 p.m. June 14 in the Clarence Town Park Clubhouse, 10405 Main St., Clarence. Sally Cunningham will present a program on native plants in Western New York.

Western New York Herb Study Group will meet at 7 p.m. June 14 at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens, 2655 South Park Ave. David Clark will present “10 Plants that Rocked History” and will include the Herb of the Year, Cilantro/Coriander.

Western New York Rose Society will meet at 7 p.m. June 14 in St. Stephens-Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 750 Wehrle Drive. Steve Styn will present “How to Exhibit Roses for Show.”

Hamburg Garden Club will be visit Hurd Orchards in Holly on June 14 for a tour. Lunch will include products grown by the fruit and flower farm and canning company. Members will arrange travel among themselves.

Judges Council of 8th District of Federated Garden Clubs of New York State will meet at 10:15 a.m. June 15 at the Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens for an hour-long docent guided tour, highlighting the recent upgrades to the Gardens. Lunch will be served at noon at Curly’s, 647 Ridge Road, Lackawanna.

Cinderella Isle Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. June 15 in Trinity United Methodist Church, 2100 Whitehaven Road, Grand Island. Dave O’Donnell from the Eastern Monarch Butterfly Farm will speak on monarch butterflies. Call Julie Furminger, 833-3899.
