War of 1812 salute, concert, fireworks on tap June 11 in Cheektowaga

A patriotic ceremony honoring those who lost their lives in the War of 1812 is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. June 11 at the War of 1812 Cemetery on Aero Drive in Cheektowaga.

The service includes presentations by the American Legion and and Cheektowaga Historical Association and wreath layings. The American, British and Canadian flags will be raised, accompanied by the respective anthems performed by the Cheektowaga Chorale. The Greater Buffalo Firefighters Pipes & Drums will play "Amazing Grace" and there will be a firing of the War of 1812 cannon and "Taps" performed by Lucas Ott of Boy Scout Troop 554.

A reception immediately follows at American Legion Francis J. Donovan Post 1626, 3210 Genesee St.

The patriotic theme continues at 6:45 p.m. with a Flag Day concert in the Cheektowaga Town Park Cultural Center by the Cheektowaga Community Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Hill High School Jazz Ensemble.

Fireworks are scheduled there at dusk.
