June 7 – Birdwatching walk at Reinstein Woods Environmental Education Center, 93 Honorine Dr., Depew starting at 6:30 p.m.

June 8 – Lake Ontario Trout and Salmon Association monthly meeting at Cornell Cooperative Extension Niagara, 4487 Lake Ave. (Route 78), Lockport starting at 7 p.m. Guest speaker will be Marty Polovick of Lockport on how to catch big walleyes.

June 8 – Southtowns Walleye Association of WNY will hold its monthly meeting at the clubhouse located at 5895 Southwestern Blvd., Hamburg starting at 7:30 p.m.

June 15 – Erie County Chapter of SCOPE will hold its monthly meeting at the Harvey D. Morin Post, 965 Center Road, West Seneca starting at 7 p.m.

June 16 – Kids fly fishing clinic at Adventure Bound on the Fly, 16 Washington St., Ellicottville from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Call 217-4047 for more information.

June 17 – Opening of regular bass season in New York, as well as Great Lakes muskellunge season. Consult www.dec.ny.gov for regulations.

June 17 – Great Lakes Experience/Festival in Dunkirk from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the area of the Clarion Hotel. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service displays with a focus on the environment, ecology, science and fish.

June 17 – NYS Summer Classic Fishing Tournament through Aug. 31. A total of 10 fish species categories and 55 weigh-in locations around the state. Registration is $25 for adults, $5 for kids. Go to www.nyssummerclassic.com for more information.

June 17 – Seabirds International/Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW) women-only kayaking tour from 10 a.m. to noon on the Buffalo River. Cost is $40. Call 392-2708 to register. Rentals available. Meet at the DEC launch on Ohio Street, Buffalo.

June 17 – New June meeting date and time of Lake Erie Chapter of Fly Fishers International will be at 7:30 a.m.  It will be an on-the-stream fishing meeting, polishing skills at casting and catching fish!  Rain or shine. June 22 – Erie County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs will have its monthly meeting at American Legion Post 735, 35 Legion Pkwy., West Seneca  with the Lake Erie Chapter International Federation of Fly Fishers. Meeting starts at 7 p.m. (6:30 p.m. for the Board).

June 24 – Free Teach-Me-To-Fish Clinic at Chestnut Ridge County Park from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Preregistration is preferred by contacting DEC’s Mike Todd at 851-7010. Adult supervision required for all children.

June 24 – Kayaking the creek at Wilson-Tuscarora State Park from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Bring your kayak and approved PFD. Call 282-5154 for more info or to register.

June 24-25 – NYS Free Fishing Weekend. No license needed anywhere in the state but you do have to abide by state fishing regulations. Check out www.dec.ny.gov.

June 24-25 – Hooked on Fishing Tournament presented by the Boys and Girls Club of the Northtowns. Over $3,000 in prizes. Everything is run out of Gateway Harbor, North Tonawanda. June 24-25 – 9th Annual Family Fishing Days at Broderick Park, Buffalo (foot of Ferry Street) from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Food, fun and games; fishing contest; demonstrations.
