The Buffalo Bisons happily could say good-bye to Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pa., on Wednesday night as they headed for Pawtucket, R.I. The Herd visited the Lehigh Valley IronPigs' home park for the final time this season on Wednesday night and lost a doubleheader, 2-1 and 6-3. It left the Bisons with an 0-7 record in Allentown for the season.
In the opener, Bisons lefty Brett Oberholtzer knocked a few points off his earned-run average but added another loss to his record (1-4). He allowed only four hits over six innings but three of them came in the first inning when all the scoring was done.
Liblebijian comes through: Buffalo scored when Roemon Fields singled, stole second and came home on a single by Jason Liblebijian, the 38th RBI of the season for the Buffalo infielder. Buffalo had only three hits the rest of the way against three Lehigh Valley pitchers and left the bases loaded in the seventh.
Outhomered: Raffy Lopez his his sixth homer of the season, and first since May 21, to account for all the Bisons runs in the second game. Lehigh Valley hit three homers in the game, solo shots by Rhys Hoskins in the first, Dylan Cozens in the fourth and Nick Williams in the sixth.
Grube is loser: The Bisons managed six hits against IronPigs Mark Leiter, making his first since coming down from the Phillies, and reliever Hoby Milner. Jarrett Grube (2-3) took the loss for the Bisons.
Championship pace: Lehigh Valley (40-19) is winning at a .678 clip while the Bisons dropped to 31-26 and fell eight games behind the first place IronPigs.
On to R.I.: Lefty T.J. House is scheduled to get the start for the Bisons tonight in a opener of a four-game series against the Pawtucket Red Sox. Right-hander Shawn Haviland is listed as the PawSox probable. Cssar Valdez is down to get Friday night's start for Buffalo against lefty Jalen Beeks of the Sox. The probable for Saturday at Lucas Harrell of the Herd against Kyle Kendrick.
