Tonawanda Democratic and GOP committees endorse candidates

Chuck Sankey, Damon Piatek and Paul Christian have been endorsed by the Town of Tonawanda Republican Committee to run for Town Board seats.

The Republican committee recently announced its slate of candidates, saying it will "take on the Democratic monopoly" on the Town Board.

Three Democratic incumbents on the board, John A. Bargnesi Jr., who also serves as deputy supervisor; and Lisa Chimera and William Conrad, both Ken-Ton teachers, have been nominated by the Democratic committee to run for re-election.

Sankey, a freelance writer and website designer, has been GOP committee chairman since March. Christian, the owner of Dr. Hugg's Car Wash, is running for office for the first time. Piatek, president of Welke Customs Broker, lost in the race for town supervisor in 2015.

Thomas Jones II, appointed highway superintendent in March, has been endorsed by the Democrats. The Republican party did not choose a candidate, nor endorse Jones.
