Buffalo man pleads guilty to possessing drugs in school parking lot

LITTLE VALLEY – Dana A. Toppins, 36, of Buffalo, pleaded guilty this week to a felony drug possession charge in Cattaraugus County Court, prosecutors said.

Toppins, who has been jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail since his arrest in the Gowanda Middle-High School parking lot May 2, faces sentencing July 16 by Judge Ronald D. Ploetz. Toppins pleaded guilty Monday to third-degree attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance.

According to the Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office and Gowanda Police, Toppins was arrested after a school resource officer noticed a pickup truck in the school parking lot long after students had been let out for the day. Toppins was charged with having about five grams of heroin, a gram of cocaine, several hypodermic needles and drug packaging material indicating he was preparing to sell the drugs in the Town of Perrysburg locality, authorities said.
