The boogie just never gets old, does it? Particularly when it's being laid down by ZZ Top, two dudes with big beards and one beardless dude whose last name is Beard. (Confusing, I know, but very much in keeping with ZZ Top's sense of humor.)
The key to the band's enduring popularity is not difficult to discern. Take Billy Gibbons' raunchy double-stops, wiry leads and soulfully gruff vocals. Then dash a dollop of the relentlessly on-point Dusty Hill/Frank Beard rhythm section on top. Finally, season liberally with a deep catalog of gloriously sleazy Texas-refried blues-boogie riffs and unforgettable hooks.
This is why, every time ZZ Top rolls through the area, the venue is packed. A similar scenario is likely when the band kicks off Artpark's Tuesdays in the Park summer concert series on June 6.
Info: ZZ Top with Austin Hanks at 6:30 p.m. June 6 at Artpark in Lewiston. Tickets are $22 week of show, (box office, Tickets.com).
