Driver killed when tractor-trailer hit Hamburg home was Ontario man

The tractor-trailer driver who died Sunday night when his rig veered off the I-90 westbound Thruway and crashed into a home in the Town of Hamburg has been identified as David K. Raney, 57, of Owen Sound, Ont.

Raney was traveling westbound near Exit 56 just before 8 p.m. when he suffered an apparent medical emergency and drove off the north shoulder of the roadway, State Police said Monday.

The loaded rig struck a utility pole and a chain link fence before crashing into an unoccupied house and shed at 4377 Highland Parkway, police said.

Raney was transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit was at the scene late Sunday with Hamburg Police and Big Tree Fire Department units. The tractor trailer was being removed from the scene Monday.
