Demolition ordered after Kensington Avenue house fire

Several Buffalo Fire Department crews were sent to deal with a heavy fire that engulfed a two-and-a-half-story frame house at 894 Kensington Ave. Sunday night.

The fire department was called in at 8:33 p.m. and, with the flames extending from the first floor to the second floor and attic space, all firefighters were ordered out of the unoccupied house at 8:50 p.m.

One firefighter reportedly was treated for injuries at the scene. The fire was declared under control at about 8:57 p.m., but three fire crews remained at the scene after 9 p.m.

Buffalo Fire officials requested emergency demolition of the vacant building, which suffered $65,000 damage in the fire. No property was reported in the building.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
