Update: Game on at North, game off in Dunkirk for Section VI softball finals

Update from Section VI regarding the softball finals.

As of early Thursday afternoon, it is game on for the Section VI softball championship games at Williamsville North but a no go for the Class C-1 and C-2 finals at Dunkirk's Promenschenkel Stadium.

The Class C games will now be played at 4 and 6:30 p.m. Friday at Promenschenkel with Chautauqua Lake taking on Cassadaga Valley at 4 p.m. in C-1. The C-2 game pits Maple Grove against Portville.

The Class A-1, A-2, B-1 and B-2 finals are still on for Thursday as those games are slated to take place on an all-weather surfaces at North. The A-1 final between Williamsville East and Williamsville South starts at 4:30 p.m. On a field at the opposite end of the complex, the B-1 final between old friends Depew and Alden will be going on. The A-2 and B-2 finals are scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.

Section VI chairman Jay Hall said earlier officials will hold off until later in the day to determine whether it's best to play the games or reschedule the games at North. Since the fields at North are not natural grass or dirt, the officials could theoretically play a wait and see game with Mother Nature and then make the decision to play if it looks like there's a window of dry weather.
