FLOWER POWER – The Kenmore Lions Club will kick off its Carnations for Sight campaign from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Budwey’s Market, 535 Division St., North Tonawanda. Donation is $1 per carnation and benefits projects for the sight and hearing impaired.
The sale continues at Budwey’s from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, and at the U.S. Post Office Hiler Branch, 244 Highland Parkway, Kenmore; at M&T Bank, 3637 Delaware Ave., Town of Tonawanda; and across the street at Save-A-Lot Market, 3640 Delaware Ave.

SONGS IN SPIRIT – A Hymn Festival, celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in Holy Ghost Lutheran Church, 6630 Luther St. at Niagara Road, Wheatfield. Presenting choral and instrumental work from Bach, Christiansen and others will be the Concordia College-New York Tour and Chamber Choirs, which will perform next month in Carnegie Hall in New York City. All are welcome. Admission is free.

THE WRITE STUFF – The Hamburg Writers’ Group will read excerpts from their work, then host an open mic night for other writers at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Hamburg Public Library, 102 Buffalo St. Books written by members of the HWG will be available. PRICE IS RIGHT – St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3512 Clinton St. at Union Road, West Seneca, serves its monthly free community dinner from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Friday. Menu is Buffalo chicken wing soup, roast beef sandwich, dessert and beverages. All are welcome. Free-will donations are appreciated.

TABBY HOUR – Ten Lives Club, the cat rescue group, holds its ninth annual Beer For Cats fundraiser beginning at 5 p.m. Friday in Mr. Goodbar, 1110 Elmwood Ave. Tickets are $10 and include two 10-ounce specialty draft beers. Three will be available, including Rutherford B. Haze, a summer seasonal Belgian wheat beer from Community Beer Works.
