More than 75 streets scheduled for repaving in Buffalo this summer

Street pavers may be coming soon to a road near you.

The City of Buffalo’s annual paving reconstruction project kicked off this week.

Crews are scheduled to pave more than 75 residential streets this season.

About $7.5 million is earmarked this year for paving all across the city.

First phase of the work begins this week, starting with Pansy Place from Florida Street to East Delavan Avenue; Regina Street from Florida Street to Mohican Avenue; and Mohican Avenue from West End to Humboldt Parkway.

From milling to paving, the work takes three to five days to complete, weather permitting, said city officials.

Residents will be notified through fliers and door hangers when their street will be paved.

"Our residents deserve streets that are paved and passable to get to work, school or just around their neighborhood … and that’s why we are making long-term investments to improve our infrastructure and provide a better quality of life for all city residents," said Mayor Byron W. Brown.

In addition to the paving program, the city has completed $1 million in sidewalk work this season on East Street from Parish to Hertel Avenue; Howell Street from Amherst to Grote streets; and Urban Street from Fillmore Avenue to Kehr Street.

And coming this summer is infrastructure work along key corridors that has started or will be starting soon.

Brown made the announcements during a celebration of National Public Works Week in Buffalo, which runs through Saturday.

"Public Works Connects Us" is this year’s theme, and the dome at the top of City Hall will be lit in orange throughout the week as part of the recognition.

Since 1960, the American Public Works Association has sponsored National Public Works Week. More than 28,000 members in the United States and Canada use this week to energize and educate the public on the importance of the contribution of public works to their daily lives.

In addition to Pansy Place, Regina Street and Mohican Avenue, a partial list of other streets to be paved this summer include:

• Humber Avenue from East Delavan Avenue to Sussex Street

• Scheule Avenue from East Ferry Street to Northland Avenue

• Montana Avenue from East Ferry to Genesee streets

• Burgard Place from Genesee to Hazel streets

• Boehm from Bailey to Warring avenues

• Antwerp Street from Bailey to Warring avenues

• Moeller Street from Bailey to Warring avenues

• Roslyn Street from Genesee Street to North End
