Two teens hospitalized after car strikes tree in Genesee County

Speed contributed to a one-car crash Monday in the Town of Oakfield that sent two teens to the hospital, the Genesee County Sheriff's Office said.

The car went off the road and hit a tree near Maltby and North Pearl roads at about 5:51 p.m., the Sheriff's Office said.

The driver, identified as Isaac L. Mejia, 17, of Batavia, was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. The passenger, identified as Damien L. Bush, 16, of Oakfield, was taken by Mercy Flight to Erie County Medical Center.

Their conditions were not available Tuesday morning. Mejia was identified by authorities as the owner of the 2013 BMW 320i involved in the wreck.

While speed was one factor, the cause of the crash remains under investigation, the Sheriff's Office said.
