Non-hearing appeals to Amherst's Board of Assessment Review must be received at the Assessor's Office in Town Hall, or to the Board of Assessment Review, by 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
The deadline to challenge property assessments, also known as “Grievance Day,” is May 23 in most communities, according to the state Department of Taxation and Finance.
Tentative assessment rolls, which list the assessed value of each property, are generally made public in the beginning of May. You can access the rolls at your town’s or city’s website, or by visiting your local assessor’s office.
Property owners who believe their assessment is too high can appeal to their local review board.
Necessary forms may be found by visiting amherst.ny.us and clicking on "2017 Assessment Equity Project."
