A lake shore flood watch for Thursday was issued Tuesday night by the National Weather Service for properties along Lake Ontario in Niagara, Orleans and Monroe counties. The watch is in effect from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday.
The alert from the NWS office in Buffalo said that the combination of high lake levels, moderate northeast winds and high waves could cause flooding in low-lying areas and erosion on beaches and shorelines.
After a day of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s on Wednesday, a cool front will bring rain overnight. Thursday is forecast to be cool and windy, with up to half an inch of rain. Highs will be in low 60s with northeast winds about 15 mph.
Rain is expected to continue Thursday night and diminish Friday. Outlook for the start of the holiday weekend on Saturday promises sunshine and highs in the 70s.
