Gunman tries to rob Niagara Falls food vendor

A man with a gun who tried to rob a food trailer Sunday night in downtown Niagara Falls ran away when confronted by a relative of the victim, according to a city police report.

The victim told police he was getting ready to close for the evening just before midnight when a man tried entering the trailer near the corner of Rainbow Boulevard and Old Falls Street, according to the police report.

The assailant pulled out a gun and demanded money, but the victim told him he didn't have any, at which point the would-be robber hit him in the arm with the butt of the gun, the report said.

A relative of the victim told police he hit the gunman's arm to stop him from pointing the firearm at the victim. The assailant then ran from the scene, though he returned a short time later to retrieve a bicycle that was laying on the ground.

Police searched the area to no avail.
