Falls teen imprisoned for armed robbery attempt

A Niagara Falls teenager was denied youthful offender status and sentenced to two years in state prison Monday for attempting an armed robbery.

Karlin N. Ryan Jr.,  17, of Walnut Avenue, also will have to serve three years of post-release supervision on his guilty plea to attempted second-degree robbery, State Supreme Court Justice Richard C. Kloch Sr. ordered.

Niagara County Assistant District Attorney Doreen M. Hoffmann said Ryan tried to rob a woman at gunpoint about a block from his home on Feb. 1. He fled the scene and police surrounded his house and saw someone throw a 9-mm handgun out of a window. The gun had Ryan's fingerprints. It later turned out that the gun had been borrowed.
