Scholarship book sale will benefit local students

Western New York high school and college students will be among the beneficiaries when the Buffalo branch of the American Association of University Women opens its 63rd Scholarship Book Sale  on May 31 in the Burlington Plaza, 1551 Niagara Falls Blvd., Amherst.

More than 150,000 books, DVDs, CDs, games and puzzles will be on sale during the five-day event that ends June 4. Most items sell for 50 cents to one dollar, though collectibles and new books are priced higher and some children's books will sell for as little as 25 cents.  Proceeds benefit scholarships, grants and interest-free college loans to high school and college students, grants to community grass roots organizations, and fellowships awarded by the national AAUW.

Opening day admission is $20 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m., and $10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fee drops to $5 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Admission is one dollar from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on June 1 through June 3. Admission is free June 4 when the sale is open from noon to 5 p.m.
