A Gasport man was arrested by Niagara County Sheriff's deputies Friday after allegedly attempting to break into a Town of Lockport house.
Hugh R. Jackson, 61, was charged with second-degree attempted burglary, possession of burglar's tools, fourth-degree criminal mischief, criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree and criminal possession of marijuana.
Sheriff's deputies said Jackson tried to force his way into a residence on Locust Street when he was observed by the homeowner who called 911 as Jackson fled the scene on a bicycle.
Niagara County Sheriff's and New York State Police patrols were dispatched. Jackson's bicycle was found in the 6300 block of Hamm Road. Jackson was eventually tracked to an area nearby a bike path, about 700 feet behind George Southard School, where he was taken into custody, according to the Sheriff's office.
Jackson was arraigned in Town of Lockport Court and held without bail pending his scheduled court reappearance on Thursday.
