Developer submits Muir Woods housing plan for initial review

Ciminelli Real Estate Corp. has submitted its plan to build a subdivision of 133 single-family homes on the Muir Woods property for review by the Amherst Planning Board.

The board could start to review the project's environmental impact at its June 15 meeting now that Ciminelli has filed an application with the town's Planning Department. It is the first of several reviews the board must undertake.

The 87 acres on which Ciminelli proposes to build, located on the east side of the site, are zoned for single-family homes. The development is Ciminelli's effort to revive the long-dormant, 326-acre property in northwest Amherst.

The company has owned the property since 2000 but shifting market conditions and neighborhood opposition kept Ciminelli from developing the massive office and research park originally planned for Muir Woods.
