Tops Markets is in the process of buying the Shurfine Foods store on Route 5 in Angola.
Tops has the store under contract and is expecting to have its due diligence completed by the end of the month. It hopes to close on the deal during the first week of June, it said.
In April, Shurfine began cutting down its hours and closing earlier. Right now, it is in the process of liquidating its inventory at a discount.
Tops declined to offer other details about the store, including any planned changes, when it hopes to open, or even whether it will open at that location at all.
The Amherst-based grocer took over a family-owned supermarket in Sanborn in November 2015 and closed it to complete $1 million in renovations before celebrating a grand opening the following April.
