A 33-year-old Buffalo man was rescued after falling about 70 feet in the Niagara Gorge on Thursday night, according to the Niagara Falls Fire Department.

The man, identified by State Parks Police as Christopher Travis, was walking with his girlfriend when he slipped off the edge of a path in gorge, in the area of the Niagara Gorge Discovery Center, just before 9 p.m. Travis suffered a broken right leg, a broken left ankle and a cut to the head, the fire department said.

He was taken to Erie County Medical Center after rescuers carried him out of the gorge.
