Take a sneak peek of new sculpture in Medical Campus Metro station

Gut Flora is taking shape in the Metro Rail's Allen-Medical Campus Station.

Installation of public art sculpture designed by artist Shasti O'Leary Soudant had been delayed in late April to adjust the top fit flush with the station's ceiling tiles.

Workers began installing the multicolored top pieces of the artwork overnight Tuesday at the Metro station on the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus.

The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority has closed the station overnight from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday. During those hours, riders are instead advised to board the No. 8 Main Metro bus or to use the Summer Street Best Station.

The enameled steel structure resembles a double helix of DNA. It will greet passengers as they arrive and depart the station at University of Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.
